The Power Of Storytelling - Share *Your* Story!

Stories are the most powerful way we communicate in any language, medium, or social circle.  Stories can teach important lessons, groom good habits/values, or simply entertain.  They can inspire action or reaction.  They often unite people, regardless of their backgrounds.

Throughout the ages, history has shown has great storytellers in every culture from ancient Egypt to the Mayans to the Native Americans of our great country.  Every great era has great story tellers.  I want you to be one of our time!
Will you share your story with our growing community?
Stories build family and community.

I want Money Slave No More (MSNM for short), to be a blog where we can share stories about financial struggles, personal victories, overcoming fear/failure, family, online business, and everything in between.  MSNM needs to be a collective of our real stories, things that the average person can identify with.  This can't happen without your support so read on, please!

If you have any story at all to share, let's connect on Twitter - @KelliWorkAtHome - we'll figure out the next steps together.  Don't worry about how polished or complete the story is as there are several paths we can take:
  • You can guest blog here on MSNM.
  • You can become a regular contributor and we can collaborate!
  • You can be quoted or share a quick testimonial/anecdote.
The only requirement is that your story have some sort of lesson or message that relates to the overall scope of this blog.  For all intents and purposes, we mainly focus on work-life balance (or leaning in, if you prefer) and online businesses here.
Why is it so important to share stories in different places... or at all, for that matter?

Everyone loves stories.  Whether a listener or reader prefers books, movies, songs, podcasts, or another medium, chances are they enjoy stories of different types.  Stories, especially those of oral tradition, help keep legends, family history, cultures, and folk lore alive.  People love to gather around a good storyteller because they know they will at the very least be entertained, if not learn something new and be inspired, too!

Stories trump pitches.  Sales pitches have their place but few want to sit around for a long pitch.  A long story, on the other hand, may build a captive audience and bring people closer to you.  Stories generally build up belief while pitches build disbelief, no matter how good they are.  Human nature generally has us doubting something that sounds "too good to be true" but, with stories, we learn to suspend our belief a bit and immerse ourselves.

We can celebrate our failures.  Stories give us a wonderful opportunity to share failures, not just victories.  For those that fear "showing their warts", sharing a story is an easy way to dress up an otherwise embarrassing experience and reveal powerful truths and lessons.  Even so, stories tend to lean towards happy endings and a strange phenomenon where everything magically or unrealistically works itself out.  This means those of us whom can share failures through stories have a wonderful opportunity to share life lessons with others and spare them some pain.  More importantly, real stories give us all something we can identify with, reminding us that we are truly not alone.

Guest blogging builds credibility (and links).  From a more practical perspective, contributing to other sites and blogs helps us build up more credibility and backlinks.  The latter is a big part of SEO and inbound marketing, as off-site content with proper attribution helps generate more traffic and, best of all, build trust.  After all, an author or thought leader mentioned in more than one place must be significant, right?

So what are you waiting for?

The opportunity is ripe here as I plan to ramp up content development and update this blog three to five times a week.  The more content I can gather, the better for all of us!  Here are some of the topics I am developing and curating content around:
  • Celebrating and learning from failures
  • Dealing with rejection and objections
  • Making your first sale in an MLM/WFH business
  • Keeping family first when working from home
  • Empowering others and being a positive influence
  • Holding our peers and colleagues accountable
  • Responding to trolls and naysayers in productive ways
  • Encouraging but not forcing support from loved ones
  • Dealing with a negative spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend
  • Turning a negative situation into a positive one
  • Exercising faith/belief in the most dire of situation
  • Affiliate programs and products you love (and why)
There is a world of topics that we can explore together.  I invite you to join me and, if you have exciting affiliate marketing or work from home opportunities to share that align with the topics of discussion, I am open to sharing those as well.

My best advice is that think of sharing value or entertaining first, then the sales.  Money always follows when you engage your audience but don't let that be your #1 priority.
